Avista's LED Streetlight Change Out Program
Avista has launched a five-year project to replace nearly 30,000 company-owned streetlights with energy efficient LED lights.
Updating to LED streetlights provides advantages to the public, customers and the environment as they use about 50 percent less energy than traditional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights, while lasting 2-3 times longer and providing better light quality for motorists and pedestrians.
Avista plans to upgrade 3,000 of its streetlights in Washington by the end of 2015 and expects to launch the program in Idaho in 2016. As current High Pressure Sodium streetlights burn out, they will be replaced with a LED streetlight. Decorative streetlights and area lights are not included in the program at this time.

In addition to Avista's streetlight change out project, the company is also participating in Relight Washington, a Washington state Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) program.
- provides funding directly to small cities with a population of fewer than 5,000 that own their streetlights. The funding will help them convert to LED streetlights and benefit from the energy saving technology.
- helps qualifying small cities using Avista-owned streetlights benefit from LED technology
