Externally developed economic, environmental and social charters

Avista employees help build value for our communities through their active involvement in organizations that are making a significant difference in our region. Here are some examples:

Inland Northwest Partners

Avista is a founding investor of the Inland Northwest Partners which is a non-profit organization focused on enhancing the long-term vitality of the Inland Northwest. The organization has operated for over 20 years and facilitates knowledge sharing to build a strong economic base among member communities. As part of their outreach to member communities, it offers the Inland Northwest Economic Alliance which focuses on creating prosperity by attracting jobs to the region.

Inland Pacific Hub

The Inland Pacific Hub planning project is a multi-agency, community-based effort created to establish the Inland Pacific region as a multi-modal global gateway to increase international commerce. Specifically for the eastern Washington and Idaho Panhandle region the goal of this bi-state undertaking is to develop a dynamic, safe, efficient, effective and sustainable multi-modal inter-and intra-jurisdictional transportation system that is a catalyst to a vibrant regional economy.

University District

The University District is a live/work/play urban neighborhood where innovation, discovery, entrepreneurship, scholarship and neighborhood development come together to provide an ongoing stream of economic growth and business opportunity for the region. The district offers opportunities to address economic development issues, urban growth, environmental restoration, transportation and affordable housing needs.

Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI)

Greater Spokane Incorporated is the Spokane region’s only Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council. Avista was one of the founding members of this organization that has worked to build a stronger economy since 1889 by ensuring a world-class business climate. GSI does its work by joining with the local business community and other partners throughout the region in support of a healthy and vibrant environment in which to live, work and do business. It focuses on four key areas: economic development, workforce development, public policy and small business.

Public Policy positions and participation in policy development and lobbying

Avista actively participates in local, state and national legislative and governmental practices. We work with others to develop trusting and credible relationships with elected office holders who determine public policy affecting our company. It is appropriate and responsible for the company, through shareholder dollars and the employee-funded political action committee, to be supportive of those individuals through political contributions as one part of a comprehensive government relations program.
