We respect your privacy
Avista Utilities considers the responsible use of personal information to be a critical element in enabling the Internet to reach its potential as an essential tool for personal and professional activities. As the Internet changes our lives in a number of ways, Avista Utilities is committed to respecting your privacy. This policy is for Avista Utilities only and does not apply to Avista's other family of websites.
In general, you can visit www.avistautilities.com without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself.
There are times, however, when we may need information from you, such as your name, home or business address, account or meter number and e-mail address. Avista Utilities will seek to let you know before we collect any personal information from you over the Internet. One example of when we may need information is during our registration process. This information is used to help us identify who you are so that we can provide you with your account information, etc. We use this information to ensure you are who you say you are for security reasons. The information that we request is your account number and the electric or natural gas meter numbers found on your bill. Avista Utilities will also seek to take appropriate steps to protect the information you share with us, including using appropriate technology for credit card data used in electronic commerce transactions. When you enter Avista’s secure server, you are protected by the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology utilized by most popular browsers.
Avista may otherwise provide customer information to government agencies, landlords (in the event of a service disconnection) and to collection agencies (in the event of non-payment of utility bills), but only after verifying the identity and affiliation of the receiving party.
Any information obtained from registrations, complete surveys, and energy audits is completely confidential. You have the right to request, correct, and obtain access to your personal information at any time. Upon request, Avista Utilities will remove your information from the Registration Database. To request a copy of this information or to request removal of your information from our database, please send in a mailed request with your Account #, User name, and Password. Please submit this request to the following address:

When Avista Utilities receives information about your session or about you, we may use it for research or to improve our site and the services we offer you. We will ask you if you want us to use that information to continue contact with you by Avista Utilities via e-mail or other means — for example, to send you new product information or notification of special offers. If you do not want us to contact you, you can choose to "opt out," and Avista Utilities will endeavor to respect your wishes.
If you choose not to provide this information, Avista Utilities will not be able to offer access to your accounts on the Internet or provide the ability to utilize services that require the use of information of a proprietary nature.
Online & Email Surveys
We value your opinions about our service. We may periodically survey you by e-mail or on our website to receive your feedback. We will not release information about you obtained from our surveys to any outside party except as required by law.
Tracking user sessions
In general on www.avistautilities.com, IP addresses (the Internet address of a computer) are logged to track a user's session while the user remains anonymous. We analyze this data for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of our site users are visiting and how long they spend there. In general, we do not link your IP addresses to anything personally identifiable to you, except in the cases of certain personalized subscription, which utilize session data to improve the service. In those limited cases where session information is not anonymous, Avista Utilities will provide notice of the practice and an opportunity to "opt out."
Some Avista Utilities web pages use "cookies," which are small files that may be placed on your hard disk or temporarily in your computer's memory for record-keeping purposes. A cookie helps us remember who you are. It is like when someone frequently visits a certain store -- the clerk may not know the customer by name, but recognizes the customer and knows some of that customer's preferences. Similarly, cookies can make your subsequent visits to the web page simpler and more seamless. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. (However, by not accepting cookies, some web pages may not display properly or you may not be permitted to access specific information.)
Children and the Internet
In sections of the Avista Utilities Web site, which may be of particular interest to children, we will use our best efforts not to collect personal information from those identifying themselves as age 17 or under. Avista Utilities encourages parents to take an active role in their children's use of the Internet and to spend time online with their children. Children may ask their parents to submit a request for information on their behalf.
If you have any questions or comments about our privacy practices, would like to stop receiving information from Avista Utilities, or would like to correct or update information provided to Avista Utilities via its Web site, please contact us.
Avista Utilities is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of Web sites to which we provide links.
