Avista actively practices energy conservation and efficiency in our buildings and facilities. The focus of these efforts is to reduce energy consumption and manage energy costs while providing comfort to building occupants.
In 2010, Avista began benchmarking facility energy use to continuously improve performance. Over the last few years Avista has made great strides to improve energy efficiency and reduce annual energy usage in our facilities through a number of different projects. Some of these projects include:
Avista has embarked on a five-year program to renovate the corporate headquarters building, constructed in 1958. The project includes asbestos removal, new HVAC and lighting systems, as well as reconstruction of office space to meet LEED standards.
LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. Following completion of construction on the building’s fifth floor, the company received LEED Gold Certification for the project. As the building renovation is completed, floor-by-floor, plans call for the fourth floor work to be submitted for LEED certification in 2011 and the third floor in 2012.
Through improving Avista’s facilities with projects such as these, we have been able to reduce our annual energy usage and costs.
